Honest Tony Robbins Unleash the Power Within Virtual Review
Something that has been on my bucket list is to attend a Tony Robbins event. I’ve wanted to do this for years ever since I read his book Awaken the Giant Within that changed my life. Unfortunately, Tony’s events have always out of my price range. Tickets range anywhere from $2,000 to $10,000, depending on the event. However, due to the global pandemic, Tony Robbins made an Unleash the Power Within Virtual, with the price of admission being only $350.
I was hesitant to try this online because I know part of what makes his events awesome is the energy you get from being in the room with other people. But for $350, it was worth a shot. Plus, I could knock it off my bucket list!
Preparing for the Event
A week before the event started, I received a goodie box in the mail with the following items. A workbook, a “do not disturb sign” an eyemask, emojis for the webcam, a wooden board, and a black permanent marker.
Three days leading up to the event, they did small Facebook live videos every day that prepped us for the Unleash the Power Within Virtual (UPW) event. They had us write down, “Why we enroll for this program, and what are our limiting beliefs are.”
They also REQUIRED us to do a Zoom test tech call. This was to make sure we didn’t have any tech issues on the day of the event and to answer any questions we may have.
They also gave us tips on how to sleep better and gave us a little morning ritual on how to start our day feeling energized.
How does it work Virtually?
I join a Zoom call capped at 300 participants. In the Zoom call, we had a tech person to help us out with any issues and to post important things into the chat, such as links, quotes, and reminding us to drink water. They also answered any questions we had.
One “participant” in the Zoom call was the Unleash the Power Within (UPW) program, which was filmed live and broadcasted as that participant.
The stage was surrounded by a screen that showed all the webcams of the participants in their Zoom calls. At least, as many as it could with 23,000 participants. The screen was continuously refreshing to show more people on the screen to the presenter.
The presenter could see everyone and could call people out by their name. They could also select you personally and pull up your webcam as the main screen for everybody to see.
Since everyone was visible and we could be selected as the main screen at any moment, everyone kept their energy high.
Day 1
I woke up at 6:30 am (PST) and did the recommended morning ritual. I stretched, drank water, got 15 minutes of sunlight, took a cold shower, and drank black coffee. I felt good!
I got snacks and was ready to start dancing in my chair. If I was going to do this, I was going to go all in.
At 7:30 am, I joined a Zoom call with 300 participants.
After about 30 minutes of technical difficulties, they got the event to work.
To keep the energy up, every day at the beginning of the day, and after lunch, they had everyone dance. A dance team from KINRGY took us through a 15-minute dance exercise.
It seemed weird, dancing alone in my room. But watching everyone else in my Zoom call do it made it feel fun.
Then Tony Robbins came out and talked about how “motion creates emotion,” so he wanted us to give the event all the energy we had.
We then learned about the differences between success and fulfillment.
This was followed by some exercises in the workbook about finding out what our top human needs are currently—then realizing what they need to be for us to have a fulfilling life.
I wrote furiously! So furiously that Tony Robbins called out my name and told me I was going a good job. Wow! Out of 23,000 people, I was touched that I was noticed. I was not expecting that.
After this, we did a gratitude exercise and went on lunch. I felt great! I felt empowered, happy to be alive!
Wood Breaking!
In our goodie box, we received a wooden board with instructions telling us not to do anything with it until told to do so.
This is how we were going to end day one of UPW virtual.
At first, we were told to put a small “X” in the middle of the board. This would act as a target.
Then we were instructed to write something we wanted to breakthrough or overcome on the board.
I wrote “Prioritize” because I have not been giving myself the time and attention I deserve.
Then we were told to write on the other side what you want to break into.
I wrote “ME” because I want to start putting my needs first.
In the cheesiest way, Tony Robbins put on the song “Eye of the Tiger” and told us to begin!
I smashed through that board with a furious roar! I was ready to start prioritizing myself first. It was so much fun doing it at the same time with 23,000 other people.
It was a beautiful moment. Watching everyone else have this breakthrough in their own homes with me at the same time.
The day was filled with gratitude and the realization that I can do anything!
And so the 13-hour stream ended.
DAY 2
We started the day with 15 minutes of KINRGY dancing. It was fun, I was hyped, and then I was disappointed.
After the dancing, Tony Robbins did not come out. Instead, a guest speaker came out, Joseph McClendon. Who told us he would be speaking instead of Tony Robbins because Tony needed to rest his voice.
To start the day, we all played Simon Says. That was fun to do with 23,000 people.
The first time we played Simon Says, we did awful. When we did it a second time, everyone did much better.
It was a lesson about how the only time we truly fail is if we quit and don’t learn something. Failing forward.
Then we learned about Asstitude.
23,000 people burst into dance, all shaking their booty! What an experience.
Then we spent about 4 hours watching prerecorded Tony Robbins videos about business. All while taking dance breaks between each one.
I had a breakthrough during these videos and came up with the next idea I needed for my business.
After that, the guest speaker talked about how he came from nothing. He said he succeeded by reading the book Think and Grow Rich, and buying Tony’s Business course.
We then spent an hour listening to live interviews from people who all took Tony’s Buisness Course and succeeded with it.
Then it came, the Business Mastery upsell. Only $9,995.
The rest of the evening, we watched prerecorded videos of old Tony Robbins seminars.
They were good! Some rare material you can’t find on YouTube. We learned about building relationships through body mirroring and surrounding yourself with great people.
The day was finished off with another reminder to buy Tony’s Business Mastery course.
I was honestly quite disappointed and upset. While it was fun, I felt like this event had let me down. I didn’t appreciate Tony Robbins not being there and being upsold.
DAY 3
This was the day they promised would be the most impactful.
I am going to be completely honest and transparent here.
I had lost faith in UPW virtual and Tony Robbins. Still upset from last night, I opted in to leave my webcam off. I guess others felt the same way. I saw many participants with their webcams off.
This day Tony Robbins actually came out. He talked about “priming” and putting ourselves in a good state rough this exercise.
I’ve done this exercise before. I found it on YouTube a few years ago. It’s beautiful, give it a try.
However, after a few minutes in, I just couldn’t get into it.
My mood was not there, and I was distracted by the things happening around my house. I guess this is one of the downsides of having this event in your own home.
We finished the exercise, and Tony Robbins went on to talk about how the secret of life is to “Raise your Standards.”
What was interesting was during this time was that I kept getting a message on Zoom. “The host has asked you to turn on your video” I guess they were really trying to get everyone to participate.
“So be it!” I thought
This was when I decided to all in again!
I made a quick lunch and came back with my webcam on and full energy. I was dancing with full force!
Tony Robbins then took us through an exercise to find our top 3 limiting beliefs.
We then focused on them with the Dickes Exercise. Another great exercise I have done before on YouTube.
This exercise gave me the motivation I needed to leave a job that made me miserable about two months ago.
I recommend you try it if you are feeling stuck in life.
So we started the exercise, which was another prerecorded video.
I was disappointed Tony’s voice wasn’t live, but I still gave it all I had. I imagined what my life would be like if I let my limiting beliefs control my life.
The version we listened to was a live recording from one of his past Unleash the Power Within events. I could hear the audience from that event. It helped the immersion.
With UPW Virtual, we were all muted. So it was nice hearing other people, even if they were prerecorded.
I broke out in tears at one point during the exercise. Glad I gave it my all.
After this emotional exercise came, what was my favorite part of the whole Tony Robbins UPW experience.
To break these limiting beliefs, we needed to break their pattern.
We did that by breaking them in goofy ways.
One of the ways we broke the pattern was by taking a finger, sticking it way up our nose, and repeating to ourselves in the mirror in a silly voice. “My own bullshit belief is… (insert limiting belief here) …AND THAT’S BULLSHIT!” Then cheer like a lunatic and repeat this seven times.
Sound ridiculous, right!?
But ridiculous works. We did this to a fun song and exaggerated our movements. We were winding up our fingers before we did it. 23,000 people all sticking their fingers up their nose at the same time. It was an experience I’ll never forget.
Then we came up with new empowering beliefs to replace the old ones.
This was followed by about 15 minutes of intense dancing and celebrating.
We took a quick 10 min break and came back to a guest speaker with a sales pitch, Ultimate Mastery University.
They pulled some classic sales tactics on us. Caught us on an emotional high and asked us to write down, “Tony’s time is worth 1 million dollars an hour.” to price anchor us.
Then they showed us the price of the new program. $9,995 or $14,990 when bundled it with the Buisness Program.
“Ising that a good deal? Yes, or Yes?” the guest speaker asked us. This was followed up by uplifting music and making everyone get up to dance.
“Really? We’re celebrating that?” I thought.
To my surprise, people did! My Zoom chat room was exploding with lots of people sending in “Yes!” into the chat and dancing.
I’m sure the programs are great, but I was upset that the speaker was just conditioning us so that we would fall for this sale easily.
I happily declined and checked emails while they ranted about this program for about an hour.
This was followed by an hour break where they even texted me to buy the program.
The evening was ended with a few videos about relationships.
Even with the sales pitches, I still thought the day was great. I felt empowered. I felt like I had defeated my old limiting beliefs and now had had a tool I could use to beat any new ones I find.
DAY 4
Last day of UPW Virtual.
Most of the morning was spent listening to business success stories and getting reminded to buy their course. They even texted us again.
That’s some aggressive marketing! I screenshotted the texts so you could see.
Tony Robbins was not there again. My Zoom chat room was very upset about this.
But, if you bought a program, you’d be put into a special Zoom call where you get to spend an hour lunch with Tony Robbins.
So lunch came, and they split us!
The people who DID NOT buy the upsells got three guest speakers who all talked about how great Tony’s programs are for two hours.
Then the rooms merged again, and the presentation continued.
This was followed by a lot of great guest speakers. Some were pre-recorded videos, and some were done live.
Most guest speakers pitched us a product after presenting. There were also infomercials for various health products between speakers.
Here is a quick summary of what I learned about health.
Breathing
We practiced a few deep breathing exercises and were taught how to “breath properly.”
Energy
Health is energy, and with energy, you can do anything.
Two ways to get more energy.
1) “Grounding” walking barefoot on the grass to get the Earth’s natural electrical charge to recharge you.
2) Get a Rebounder Trampoline. Not for working out, but to refresh your body’s energy and to lymphasize by bouncing up and down 15 to 40 minutes a day.
Nutrition
Remove processed fat from your diet.
Remove animal flesh from your diet if. If you can’t, make the maximum amount of meat on your plate 25%.
Remove dairy from your diet.
Remove acid addictions such as excessive coffee, alcohol, and sugar.
Intake more fruits, vegetables, and water.
We then got a guest speaker who showed us how to make a smoothie. I thought it was silly at first, but I am drinking a delicious smoothie right now as I type this post.
At this point, my Zoom chat room was furious.
“A smoothie? I paid to learn how to make a smoothie!” One person typed in.
“These are all sales pitches, where is Tony Robbins?” Another person typed.
I’m glad I was not the only one feeling let down.
Finally, Tony Robbins came out. He told everyone that, yes, these are products he was showing us that we could buy. And that he was only showing us these products because he believed in them.
I guess he was reading the comment section and noticed people were getting upset.
He followed that up by saying life is determined by your outlook and recommended the book Man’s Search for Meaning.
The final guest speaker was Master Co. He showed us how we are all connected and took us through deep meditation.
I have medicated to various things before, but nothing as intense and relaxing as this one was.
The day ended with a video montage of the best moments of the last three days. Then a dance celebration and a goodbye to everyone who DID NOT purchase Tony’s other programs. Those who did buy the upsells got to see Tony Robbins for a little extra time that evening.
The Downsides of Going Virtual
There were a couple of challenges with the virtual event.
Day 1, the event crashed for a few minutes at the start.
We also had “Breakout Rooms,” where we would automatically get put into Zoom rooms of 6 people to share stuff, do exercises, and get to know each other.
The Breakout Rooms had lots of issues.
I remember I was sometimes paired with participants who were not at their computer. There was also an issue rejoining the main program after being in a breakout room.
I noticed on the 4th day of the event they did not do any more Breakout Rooms. I wonder if it was because it was having so many issues.
There was also a “Point System.” Where you were given points for attending and submitting answers to the given exercises, we were told that it was going to be used at the end of the event to give away prizes.
On the 3rd day, the Point System disappeared, and no know was told what had happened to it.
Also, strange things happened every once in a while during the presentation. The UPW broadcast would randomly mute itself. A random participant would somehow unmute themselves and ruin the experience for others in the call. Occasionally the main screen would show a random participant and not the broadcast itself for a few minutes before that would be fixed.
The Tony Robbins Experience App
However, people were saying that the app was not functioning correctly, and I didn’t see any people shaking their phones on their webcam.
The tech team had override on this software. So they can enable emojis and cheering sounds at the proper times to not ruin the experience people.
I don’t know how much of this was true. The UPW broadcast had a delay on it, and the sound effects always came at the exact perfect moments with the speaker. I am positive that was the job of the tech team and not people using this app.
Overall Experience
There were a few technical difficulties, but they didn’t ruin the experience.
The upsells and aggressive marketing made me roll my eyes plenty of times, but the value I received from attending the event was priceless.
I wrote about a few knowledge gems I received from the event in this post, but trust me. My notebook was running out of pages near the end. I love learning, and UPW gave me plenty of great content to learn, study, and master.
I’ve never been to an Unleash the Power Within event in person, but the virtual experience was so powerful that it made me want to attend one in person.
I laughed, I cried, I was sore, and I still kept moving. A 4-day event in the comfort of my own home was amazing. The main challenge was keeping my distractions to a minimum.
It felt very personal virtually, to be honest, sharing your living space through a webcam with 23,000 people. I was amazed by the level of energy everyone had.
The Zoom chat box was also a nice touch. I noticed my group was exchanging contact info and helping each other out with stuff they missed. They were also giving each other plenty of love and support.
Unleash the Power Within is defiantly not for everyone. If you are feeling content and happy where you are in life, great! Don’t attend UPW, but to those who are feeling stuck or want something more out of life, this experience is a must!
I am grateful I was able to experience the first-ever Tony Robbins Unleash the Power Within Virtual. I had plenty of breakthroughs and gained valuable knowledge I will be using for the rest of my life.
I found this really helpful, thanks for spending the time writing this!
You’re welcome, Kyle. I am glad you found it helpful.
