Gifts Every DnD Dungeon Master Wants

As someone who has been a Dungeon Master for a few years now, I can honestly say that these have been some of the most impactful items I have ever received or purchased for my Dungeons and Dragons game.

These are items that have greatly improved my enjoyment of the hobby. Some of these things made being a DM much easier, while others have enhanced the experience by adding a new layer of depth to the game.

These are all gifts I would recommend for other Dungeon Masters. Things that they would enjoy using while getting a lot of value from them.

Part of that makes DnD so great is the magic items. However, it can be a pain to track and manage everyone’s magic items. This deck of cards has every single magic item from the Dungeon Master’s Guide. There is something special about being able to give a player a magic item physically. With these cards, the magic items turn into real tangible things in front of the player. They also have a description of how to use the magic item on the card itself. It’s engaging, helpful, and it’s also a lot of fun watching the players trade Magic Item Cards with each other. I use this deck every single session, and it has added a lot of depth to my game.

If you are playing with unpainted minis, or have a dungeon master who has brought up the idea of painting. This is the perfect gift for them. It can kickstart a great new hobby for them. Even better, your group can join in on the activity, and everyone can paint their miniatures together. You’ll soon have great looking miniatures on the table for everyone to enjoy. This Starter Set by Reaper Miniatures was my first paint set, and I recommend it to all beginners.

You can never go wrong with buying your Dungeon Master a pack of minis. Opening up a booster box of miniatures feels just as good as opening up a pack of YuGiOh or Pokemon cards. You never know that you’re going to get. If you are currently playing a specific Dungeons and Dragons campaign, consider getting a booster box from that campaign. Or a Monster Menagerie box, this box is a collection of the most commonly used monsters in DnD. You can either buy your Dungeon Master, a single box, or a booster brick of 8 boxes. Either way, your DM is going to enjoy using the miniatures you got them.

This is a MUST for tactical Dungeon Masters. Tracking multiple statuses and spell effects on the field can be a real headache. If the DM already uses miniatures when they run games, this would be a helpful addon. It also opens up new strategies for players as it becomes easier to keep track of things for everybody. Condition Rings seem like a simple thing, but they help a ton! I can’t imagine running combat without these.

This is one of the best gifts for a new Dungeon Master. Dungeon crawling is better when you have an actual map you can look at. These Dry Erase Mats have a 1-inch grid already on them. Drawing a battle map or a dungeon is quick and easy. I often use them to draw the dungeon my players are currently exploring, sketching out the new rooms on the mat as they get discovered. I prefer dry erase mats over wet erase mats because they are easier and quicker to clean. The design on these mats adds to the aesthetics too. They are all double-sided mats, so if you need to go from a forest setting to a city setting, just flip over the mat. I use these every single session.

There is no worse feeling than watching a player roll a dice off of the table. Everyone sits there awkwardly as the game pauses. Then everyone starts searching under the table for where it went. Keep this from happening! Get your Dungeon Master Dice Trays so that they may pass them out to each of their players. Not only is this a great gift for the DM, but it can also be an excellent gift for all the players. You can give each player their very own personal dice tray! These will be used at every Dungeons and Dragons session.

If your Dungeon Master is has been using minis for a while now, but with no interesting terrain. Then this is HANDS DOWN, the best gift you can get them. Dwarven Forge dominates the market when it comes to modular 3D terrain. This will be a fantastic investment into your Dungeons and Dragons game you won’t regret. The Starter Set gives you the pieces needed to create great-looking rooms and corridors. Your Dungeon Master is going to love pulling these out for the unforgettable encounters you are going to have.
I hope this has been helpful.
